Laser correction is a modern, safe and painless way to get rid of glasses and contact linses. With the advent of femto-second laser the refractive surgery entered a new era. With its help microkeratome or scalpel are no longer needed during surgeries. Before the invention of femto-second laser the first stage of the most common surgery (LASIK) – creation of corneal flap – was performed with the help of microkeratome. Now all the stages are performed with the help of laser.

With the appearance of the latest generation of femtolaser FEMTO LDV (Ziemer, Switzerland) new method of laser correction of vision became available at the Federal IRTC “Eye Microsurgery”. We called this method Femto-LASIK. It combines modern Femto-second and excimer laser technologies, our professionalism and twenty-year experience in the field of laser refractive surgery.

1. The surgery is performed without any cutting instruments (scalpel, knife, microkeratome etc.).
With the help of femtosecond laser corneal flap is creation is quick, exact and painless.

2. Full-fledged diagnostics is a guarantee of successful correction of vision. New technologies require new quality of diagnostic examination. Before FemtoLASIK surgery patients undergo traditional and new high-sensitivity tests like confocal microscopy (noncontact analysis of corneal cells) which displays the anatomy of cornea on the initial stage when other methods are useless. It provides developing of individual algorithm of preoperative preparation and postoperative supervision in difficult cases. Aberrometry (wavefront analysis) permits to chose the most suitable method of correction in each case.

3. FemtoLASIK correction: quick, exact and painless.
Femtosecond laser creates corneal flap in 20 seconds according to the parameters which were determined by the surgeon especially for your eye. Laser beams of femtosecond laser do not “burn down” the corneal tissue, that’s why the surgery is totally painless. Due to the unique construction of our femtosecond laser, eyesight correction can be performed right after the creating of corneal flap (using other lasers one should wait one hour until the disappearance of “gas blebs”). Patient does not need to get up and leave the surgical table after the first stage of surgery (creation of corneal flap) in order to continue the surgery with the help of excimer laser. Both stages are performed under the one single surgical microscope. With the help of femtosecond laser Femto LDV and the most modern excimer lasers (Visx S4 IR, Technolas, MicroScan 2000, Nidek EC 5000) the correction of refractive anomalies takes only 5-6 minutes.

4. Eyesight correction is performed with the help of eye-tracking
All eye movements during the surgery are detected by extremely sensitive tracking loop and directions of laser impulses follow eye-tracking signals. Thus every laser beam reaches the necessary zone of cornea.

5. Night vision improvement (in comparison with traditional LASIK)
At the beginning of LASIK era most of patients complained of deterioration of vision at night, “shining spots”, image blurring of shining objects. These aftereffects appeared because the surgery was performed only on the central zone of cornea and the peripheral zone of cornea was involved at night (when the pupils are dilated). Zone of surgery depended on the diameter of corneal flap. With the appearance of FemtoLASIK we have the opportunity to create corneal flap of any size and increase the zone of surgery to the necessary size taking into account patient’s diameter of pupils. Thus the quality of patient’s vision after applying FemtoLASIK increased.

6. Quick restoring of vision and minimal post-op discomfort.
Quickness of FemtoLASIK performance, minimal injury of eye tissues and ideal adaptation of corneal flap decrease aftereffects and hasten regenerative process.
As a result: almost total absence of pain after the surgery, short (2-3 hours) period of discomfort and quick (during several hours) restoring of vision.

7. Back home next morning without glasses

Depending on condition of the eyes the patient may go home right after the surgery. However we keep patients under medical supervision of experienced doctors at comfortable rooms of our Clinic in order to avoid possible risks of infection on the journey or at home. Patients leave the Clinic next morning having almost normal visual acuity.

8. Very short period of temporary disability
In most cases patients may continue working 24 hours after the surgery. However the period of corneal regeneration lasts several weeks during which you should avoid physical and visual activities and use special eyedrops.

9. High predictability
In most cases post-op result is the same as the planned one. In rare cases of undercorrection caused by regenerative reaction of cornea it is possible to perform free repeated surgery during a year.
