Eye Diabetes Center
The Eye Diabetes Center was created in 1997 at the Svyatoslav Fyodorov IRTC “Eye Microsurgery” on the basis of a 20 year experience of the eye diseases treatment.
It is aimed at a highly specialized combined surgical aid for the patients suffering from diabetes mellitus with various eye pathologies.
The combined treatment of eye lesions caused by diabetes mellitus and a surgical treatment of diabetic retinopathy complications in particular are performed here.
Our experience doubtlessly proves that the vitreous body removal in early stages of initial retinal vessels changes stops progressing of the disease for many years.
The Svyatoslav Fyodorov IRTC “Eye Microsurgery” possesses wide links with the leading ophthalmologic clinics of the world, and thus exchanges information on the recent achievements in ophthalmic surgery.
The Eye Diabetes Center performs a large research developing new methods of diabetic eye lesions treatment. Numerous operations performed here are unique and thanks to them more and more people doomed to complete blindness with no hope now get an opportunity to see.
For example, perfluororganic compounds (fluorine and carbon compounds) used for diabetic tractional retinal detachment treatment and for edematous hemorrhagic diabetic retinopathy forms became a new trend in the world ophthalmology.
Thanks to the technologies developed at the Svyatoslav Fyodorov IRTC “Eye Microsurgery” and perfect surgical skills of our surgeons the diabetes mellitus is no more considered to be a contraindication for intraocular lenses (so called artificial lenses) implantation in case of complicated cataract extraction.
New treatment methods appear also for the other diabetic eye lesion such as secondary glaucoma that leads to blindness in numerous patients.
Thus, we’ve got an opportunity to treat patients formerly considered to be hopeless and doomed to complete blindness.

More than 1200 foreign patients from different countries were treated at the Foreign Patients Treatment Center together with the Eye Diabetes Center within last 15years.
In most cases visual functions of these patients were preserved and significantly improved.
